Wildlife Alliance conducts community outreach activities aimed at the impoverished villages around protected areas where most poachers and illegal collectors of forest products live.

The community outreach team encourages the villagers to give up their illegal activities in the park through a combination of environmental awareness education and development of small-scale income generating projects such as farming and viable ecotourism related activities. This is achieved through an initial investment from Wildlife Alliance to support set-up costs. The activities are then directly supervised by our personnel in collaboration with the communities themselves, including the locating of markets to place these products for sale, in order to ensure that the activities become self-sustainable for the long-term. In support of the on-going reforestation of the area, local people are also employed at tree nurseries and for the planting of saplings.
