 Poacher to Protector
Kuman hunted and killed endangered species in Thailand's Khao Yai National Park for almost two decades. Until Wildlife Alliance intervened, Kuman and other poachers like him were having a devastating effect on the park's biodiversity. With the help of Wildlife Alliance, Kuman is now supporting his family and community in sustainable ways that do not cause damage to the forest. This is the story of a wildlife poacher turned wildlife protector.

Wildlife Alliance congratulates our partners in Russia, the Phoenix Fund, recipient of a grant from the Zoo Boise Conservation Fund for 2008. Zoo Boise’s grant, via the Zoological Society of London, will staff an anti-poaching team to protect the critically endangered Amur leopard, the most threatened wild cat species on Earth. With fewer than 40 individuals in the wild, the Amur Leopard relies on Phoenix and other dedicated protectors to survive.

CNN's Planet in Peril Generates Global Attention
CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 Planet in Peril series generated global attention and helped redefine investigative environmental reporting with its in-depth documentary on the environmental issues shaping our planet.

The documentary highlighted several of Wildlife Alliance's wildlife and habitat protection programs, and CNN's Anderson Cooper and Animal Planet's Jeff Corwin spoke with Wildlife Alliance staff about the challenges of protecting wildlife and the consequences if we fail.
