March and April are the most difficult months for wildlife in the Russian Far East, yet the Amur tiger and Amur leopard are well-adapted for survival in their harsh environment. So why are these big cats threatened with extinction? Read about the dangers jeopardizing the survival of Amur tigers and leopards in the wild and what Wildlife Alliance's independent Russian partner, Phoenix Fund, is doing to preserve these fascinating and increasingly rare cats.

Phoenix Fund Celebrates its 10 year Anniversary

Phoenix Fund is celebrating its 10 year anniversary of protecting wildlife and wild regions in the Russian Far East! For over a decade now, Phoenix Fund has worked tirelessly to protect Russia's endangered species from poachers and the illegal wildlife trade, to prevent and resolve human/predator conflicts, and to raise awareness in schools and communities about conservation issues. Donor Spotlight - Wes Wang

Wildlife Alliance would like to extend a special thank you to donor, Wes Wang, for his continuous and generous support of our programs in Southeast Asia and the Russian Far East. Last month, Wes hosted a Crime Scene Wild gathering and film screening for donors at his house in New York City. Wildlife Alliance's Thailand Country Director, Steve Galster, was also on hand to speak with donors and answer questions. Wes has been a constant supporter of Wildlife Alliance since 2005.

Khao Yai Reforestation Project

Wildlife Alliance's Thai partner, PeunPa, is reclaiming lost habitat for wildlife and fighting global warming through reforestation activities. Preparations for tree plantings around Khao Yai National Park this rainy season are already underway thanks to a generous donation by The Foundation, a non-profit association, whose members are keen to offset their carbon footprints with real action. Areas close to Khao Yai’s borders, where encroachment has damaged the forest, will be selected by park authorities for reforestation. Tree planting in the rainy season (May-June) gives saplings the best chance to survive and grow, thanks to reliably high rainfalls.
