Suwanna Gauntlett
Suwanna B. Gauntlett founded Wildlife Alliance (formerly WildAid) in 1997 along with Peter Knights, Steve Trent and Steve Galster. Residing in Phnom Penh for the past eight years, Suwanna coordinates some of the organization's most ambitious programs in Cambodia and community agriculture development.
She and her team advise and assist the Cambodian government in applying a front-line, comprehensive approach to wildlife protection. To date in Cambodia, Wildlife Alliance has saved over 18,000 animals from the hands of poachers and provides protection to over six national parks as well as the Southern Cardamom range in the southwest region of the country. In addition, Wildlife Alliance's Community Agriculture Development Project (CADP) teaches farmers self-sustaining agriculture methods in order to reduce their dependency on illegal logging and poaching.
Suwanna has received two gold medals from the Prime Minister of Cambodia in recognition of her conservation work. Her efforts have been covered by major media including the New York Times Magazine and the National Geographic Channel.
Prior to Wildlife Alliance, Suwanna founded the Gauntlett Group LLC, an environmental consulting firm dedicated to helping corporations including Nike, Pfizer and Alcoa Fujicoa to reduce pollution in operations worldwide.
