After confiscating bush meat in Stung Treng City Market, the Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team (WRRT) drove to Stung Treng’s Reacheanukol village to seize 17.50 kg of monkey meat (Black-shanked Douc Langur) from a shop owner, Mr. Sok An, 47. Mr. Sok received a fine of $400 usd from the Forestry official for possessing wild meat. Our WRRT officer warned Mr. Sok about forestry law and he vowed to help educate the law to other shop owners in the village.
The black-shanked douc (Pygathrix nigripes) is an endangered species of douc found in forests of Vietnam and Cambodia. The total population of the species remains unknown. Pygathrix nigripes is on IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
