Axel update! Last week, nursery keepers moved Axel, a juvenile pigtail macaque, into a socialization enclosure with several other macaques. He is relearning to interact with members of his own species and working out where he fits in a hierarchical society. The keepers are keeping a close eye on him during this transitional period but he seems to be doing well in his new group!

Thank you for the update! Many of us followed Axel after he was dumped into the wild by his former, awful, owner and would love to see a video of him interacting once he’s integrated into a troupe. He was having such a rough time and had no idea how to act with other monkeys – always wanting to fight instead of play – and was scared out of his mind half the time. I know you guys are so busy, but I think this one would make a lot of people very happy to see. That or an extended photo update of him if a video isn’t possible. Thank you for all of the work that you guys do to right the wrongs of so many other human beings and their effects on these beautiful animals.
Thank you very much for the update, it’s good to see this little guy benefit from your good work.
I don’t have a lot of money to spare these days, but you can be sure of some kind of donation from me.
Not just for Axel but for all of your charges.
Thank you for what you have done for all the Angkor Wat monkeys and all wildlife in Cambodia. I am trying to do my part to help your (our) cause–am flooding comments sections of those YouTube videos with info on how to sponsor a rescued animal with you and the benefits that sponsorship brings like t5he updates alot of viewers keep asking for. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you feel there is any way I can contribute further.
I would love to see an update of Axel. I think if you considered a video series similar to Vervet Monkey Forest, showing the good work you do it could really help raise your profile and donations for your organization, as well as raise awareness about the importance of keeping these animals in the wild.
Thank you for your good work.
Is there somewhere else that we can report more of these abandoned baby monkeys? There have been several more lately and of course are suffering from a andonmemt and nonontergration and nonsocialized as a primate. A very young hybrid Male, a pigtail juvenile female and another pigtail juvenile male.
Hi Kimberly. We reccomend reporting these issues to the relevant authorities as well as reporting the problematic youtube channels directly to youtube. Here is the contact information:
The Apsara Authority – [email protected]
The Cambodian Government Forestry Administration – [email protected] or https://www.facebook.com/fa.maff.gov.kh/
The Cambodian Ministry of Environment – [email protected] or https://www.facebook.com/Ministry-of-Environment-314699302002531
Report any videos and channels such as these that exploit and abuse wildlife to YouTube. By reporting and flagging the videos, and encouraging others to do so, you can remove the financial incentive to continue abusing the macaques. Animal abuse is against YouTube’s terms of service, and they have recommended reporting the channels as ‘violent threats’ with a brief explanation.

We are very confused as to what happened to Lizzy. Does anyone have any idea? It seems that 3-4 young have been left orphaned as a result.
