A historical moment for the future of the people of Chhay Areng Valley who will be able to assure the future of their children through revenues of eco-tourism. On April 19, the Community-Based Ecotourism (CBET) developed by Wildlife Alliance and the People of the Valley was launched with the blessing of His Excellency Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism. Over the last 16-months, we developed the nature attractions, voted for the 15 CBET Committee members, enrolled 147 service providers from 8 villages and obtained the official registration of the Stung Areng CBET with the Ministry of Interior. Now, we are beginning the second phase which is development of the infrastructure (22 Homestays, 1 Visitor Center, kayaks, mountain bikes, trekking equipment for rental and 150 km of nature trails). Official opening will be end of year 2017.
