A group of tourists called the Wildlife Crime Hotline to ask for help with a baby macaque found as an orphan next to their guest house. It has now been taken to Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center by the rangers from Sun Bear Station.
The rangers bottle feed the baby macaque one by one. They don’t look so tough now eh? :)
Our Wildlife Care and Release programs are designed to rehabilitate animals victimized by the wildlife trade and provide them with the support and care necessary to ready them for release back into the wild.
thank you for all you do to protect wildlife in your unique and beautiful country. your animals, natural environment, and temples are a destination for people all over the world; many of these people come to see the ‘temple monkeys’, and the numbers are only going to increase due to the efforts of some (questionably abusive) VOs posting videos on youtube. my suggestion is that you manage this resource to better protect the interests of the animals, while raising funds to assist in your wildlife protection efforts. require that all VOs pay for a permit to film the animals, and abide by strict rules to regulate interaction and prevent them from putting the monkeys( especially the infants)) in harms way with irresponsible out-of-turn feeding. not only that, but please, put up some fences. the babies are getting hit and killed by vehicles constantly. it doesnt help that the VOs are always chasing them wherever they go, which encourages the dangerous road-crossing as a means of possible escape. also, the constant feeding by vos and tourists has created an apparent health-crisis of sorts for those troupes I’m referring to, and since the official stance is to allow feeding of the animals, the next step is to provide veterinary care for animals that have become so dependent on people for food. the money made from issuing permits to the VOs could cover the costs of vet care, fences and regulatory staff. at this point, theyre a resource thats being abused and mishandled by people who dont appreciate the importance of their social structure and are driving entire troupes to the verge of self-destruction. the mothers almost always show signs of what is considered ‘rejection’ by clinical standards and there have been multiple unusual deaths that need to be investigated. in one instance, a healthy infant suddenly fell ill and was dead in a matter of hours after being fed mangoes and bottled water by the same VO who kept santa illegally for three months. he actually posted a video on youtube of the mother (Nissa), sitting mournfully with her dead baby(niko), and the first 30 seconds of video, you can hear the man laughing, and laughing. he wasnt having a conversation with another person. he was laughing at the mother and dead baby. within a few hours, she was dead too. the poison worked faster on baby because he was so much smaller. they showed outward signs of arsenic poisoning. he’s the same guy who gave a water bottle to the mother of santa, alita, and sabrina just before their sudden unexplained deaths. these animals need your protection and consideration. they are suffering. thank you and take care.
