Chhouk lives at Cambodia’s biggest, best, and most ethical wildlife attraction, Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre. It is situated roughly 40 km south of Phnom Penh in almost 2300 hectares of regenerating forest and is home to 1300 rescued animals across almost 100 native Cambodian species.
We operate a top rated ‘Behind-the-Scenes’ fundraising tour at the center, with 100% of profits going towards our rescue, rehabilitation and release projects for wildlife affected by the illegal animal trafficking trade in Cambodia. This is a full day tour from 8a.m. – 5 p.m. and includes transportation from and to Phnom Penh, lunch and beverages, ticket entry, English-speaking guides, and access into the private areas where our expert keepers work to learn-about and interact-with some of our animals! Highlights include feeding two friendly female elephants and watching the keepers use cooperative care to change the prosthetic foot of our youngest elephant, Chhouk, entry into the tiger and clouded leopard dens for safe but up-close viewing (all through protective barriers), and entry to our nursery to view all the adorable baby rescues and to become a climbing frame for a troupe of energetic baby monkeys!
