With heavy hearts we announce that rescued infant long-tailed macaque, Heidi, passed away a few weeks ago at Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center. As many of you know, she was ill when she arrived and was not growing at the appropriate rate for a macaque her age. Despite our vets’ many attempts, she could not overcome her ailments. Her sweet nature will be missed by the entire nursery staff.

Heidi never looked like a normal baby monkey. I think she had a failure to thrive your staff did all they could for Heidi
So sorry to hear about Heidi. She will be missed as she had such a beautiful spirit. She was always ready to eat but fortunately, never grew. Thanks for taking her in and giving her a chance.
Heidi was a joy to all who were lucky enough to know her and to the ones who were lucky enough to read her story. Heidi didn’t allow her frailty and pain, to get in the way of spreading her joy and positive energy and light. You touched many hearts and will never be forgotten. Fly high little munchkin ❤
I’m commenting here because I believe there is another case like Heidi’s where a baby needs to be rescued before it is too late, and maybe there could be a better outcome this time. There is a baby named Charlee, mother is Carla, who appears to be starving even though he nurses almost constantly. The mother appears to be an older monkey and perhaps she is not producing enough milk. The baby is frequently kidnapped by other females and recently was dropped or fell from high up in the trees during a kidnapping. The poor little guy has a strong will to live, but he is almost a skeleton and it is heartbreaking to see him. I know it would cause distress to his mother for him to be taken, but his suffering should outweigh hers. Hopefully he could be nursed back to health and returned. They are at Angkor Wat and according to one website are in “Jollyroll” troop.
If at all possible, can you tell us what her ailments were, that caused her demise? I was really rooting for her and found her passing to be heart wrenching.
