These saplings, which include 18 tropical forest tree species, were grown in the organization’s nursery in Chi Phat, Koh Kong. The saplings are now ready to be planted.

Of these 197,000 saplings, Wildlife Alliance donated 82,000 to the Ministry of Environment, 50,000 to the Provincial Department of Environment (PDoE) Koh Kong, 20,000 to the PDoE Pursat, 20,000 to the PDoE Kampong Speu, and 20,000 to the District Administration of Veal Veng. The remaining 5,000 were reserved for planting at Antong Aing area along National Road 55.

The donated species include Thnong, Kra Nhoung, Beng, Neang Nuon, Pdeak, Kaki, Chheu Teal, among others, with seven of these species classified as endangered according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

All saplings are approximately one to one and a half years old, healthy, and have strong resistance, making them ready for planting this year.

The donation is part of the “One Million Trees Campaign” launched by the Ministry of Environment. This supports their goal to plant at least one million trees every year.

Wildlife Alliance aims to safeguard the Cardamom Rainforest and replenish lost forest cover. This donation aligns with the pledge made by H. E. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, to plant at least one million trees annually. Wildlife Alliance and the Ministry of Environment have collaborated for over two decades to safeguard Cambodia’s rainforest, and this campaign reinforces our mission.

All these saplings have been successfully distributed and planted in their designated locations by August 2024, contributing to a greener and healthier environment for all.
